Yesterday

Yesterday was somewhat of a busy day. There was a lot of running ( walking ) around town and meeting up with people that we had not saw in a while. In the afternoon we went to the Linne cafe for fica. This is the interior, I have no idea who the girl is, but she is getting tea from the wide assortment of teas they have. This place also has amazing desserts.

This photo was taken a while back but I didn't get any yesterday that showed the super comfortable chairs and enormous tea cups, so I had to use an old one. This is a very cozy place.

We also wandered around the cathedral a bit, trying to get a glimpse of a peregrine falcon that has been spotted living on the small tower. It was the worst possible day to do this because it was snowing like mad and a little windy. We assumed the bird was nested in until the weather broke and we will go back on a nicer day to see if he will be willing to visit.

And then in the evening we attended a traditional Icelandic End of Yule dinner. The menu included: Rice pudding with caramel sauce, cold smoked back of pig with a muscavado sugar, pineapple juice and french mustard glazing, dried apples reconstituted in strawberry vinegar, pineapple slices, dried ...apricots, prunes, fresh asparagus cooked in garlic butter, and a salad with pine nuts, sun dried tomatoes and beech smoked cod liver.
Our host than told us tales of the Yule Lads, a group of mountain dwelling giants how eat children, and played some end of yule music for us ( the song was about how one did not want to be taken up by the Huldufólk ( hidden people ). Truly fascinating stuff, I can not wait to scare the hell out of children by telling them these things.
